Camera and Sound Equipment for GSMP Regional Team in Place

13 March 2001

The Guiana Shield Media Project’s Regional team in Georgetown, Guyana has received and begun working with their new digital camera and sound equipment. Ray Kril, International Coordinator, delivered the gear and carried out training with Assistant Regional Coordinators Sherwin Blyden and Sharla Hernandez during the first week of March.

The equipment was made available through contributions from the Netherlands Committee of the IUCN and their Guiana Shield Initiative programme.

The local team is currently producing local news items for TV about environment issues in the region. A twice-monthly TV programme is also being planned for the future. The Regional Team will be working with local journalist and NGOs.

During Kril’s visit the team also meet with Conservation International, the Guyana Environment Journalist Association and local media workers towards establishing cooperation for the GSMP production plans.

There is also a plan to have the items produced in the region available to an international audience via GSMP’s web site www.guianashield.tv.
